A Look at the Current Region XII Fall Sports Landscape
Here's a look around the Region XII fall sports landscape as of Sept. 10.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The cross country season is underway and Region XII is once again home to some of the best programs the NJCAA has to offer. Lansing, the reigning NJCAA Division II National Champions, returns four of its top five runners from last season and is No. 1 in the country, while Southwestern Michigan is 10th, St. Clair County is 13th, Macomb 14th, Muskegon 15th, Grand Rapids 18th and Mott rounds out the region teams in the Division II top 25 at No. 23.
Kellogg is fifth in the country in the NJCAA Division III ranks.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
On the women's side, Muskegon was the biggest riser from their final 2024 ranking to 2025 preseason rnaking after checking in fourth nationally in the initial USTFCCCA poll. Lansing follows in the top 10 at No. 8, while St. Clair County is 11th, Southwestern Michigan is 17th and Grand Rapids is 24th. Kellogg, a Division III program, starts the 2025 season ranked second nationally.
FOOTBALL
Community Christian is 1-1 on the young season with a 47-7 win over Madonna JV and a 51-31 loss to NJCAA Division III No. 1 DuPage. while Hocking is 0-1 coming off of a season-opening 41-29 setback at NJCAA DIII No. 3 Hudson Valley.
GOLF
The men's and women's golf seasons started later than most fall sports but are in full swing as of this week with the MCCAA Eastern Conference teeing off its league campaign.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Perennial power Grand Rapids is the lone Region XII team in the Division II ranks to crack the rankings and currently sits at No. 9 nationally. The Raiders are off to a 3-2 start with their only two losses coming at the hands of top five competition. Edison State has started the 2025 campaign strong at 10-2 and currently owns a 1-0 record in the OCCAC.
Delta entered this week's action up one spot to No. 14 in the NJCAA Division III rankings.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Defending NJCAA Division III National Champion Delta is unsurprisingly ranked No. 1 to start the 2025 season as has impressed once again with a 3-0-1 record that features two Division II top 20 wins and a tie against a top-five Division II team. In Division II, Schoolcraft checked in at No. 13 this week (Sept. 9) while Kellogg was 19th.
MEN'S SOCCER
Schoolcraft is the lone Region XII team to crack the rankings this season after debuting in the top 20 at No. 17 this week (Sept. 9).
